The Viscacha
The Southern Viscacha (Wisk'acha in native Quechua) is a small, rabbit-like rodent native to South America, found in the rocky deserts and grasslands of the Andes Mountains. Known for its long ears, soft fur, and expressive tail, the Viscacha is most active at dawn and dusk. It plays an important ecological role by grazing on native plants and helping maintain balance in fragile mountain and desert ecosystems.

Direct Conservation Initiative: Tongoy, Chile
It is a part of a series of wetlands in arid areas that serve as a refuge and feeding site for more than 46 locally and internationally threatened species, including the Atacama toad (Rhinella atacamensis), as well as numerous migratory birds from both north and south.
Tongoy, Chile
It is a small coastal town in the Coquimbo Region, known for its calm beaches, fishing tradition, and close-knit community. Surrounded by ocean and desert landscapes, it reflects the simple, authentic way of life closely tied to nature and the sea.
What are we doing, exactly?
We are rewilding the landscape of the local community, by removing invasive species, such as Eucalyptus and Pine, and replacing them with natives ones. This provides key shelter for the flora and fauna of this wetland area.
Meet our partners
We are joining forces with Tiny Homes Chile, a small eco-tourism business that rents cabins by the beaches of Tongoy. Restoring the environment with the community supports both biodiversity and the local economy—a true win-win.
